On April 5 & 6, senior students Gernel Javier, Godfrey Julia, Edgar Ramos Delgado and Kobe Miller participated in the 2016 Career & Technical Education Performance Based Assessment (CTE PBA) at Sheraton Waikiki.  Students worked as a team and had 2 days to work on a real world challenge from a client and present their findings and solutions in front of judges.

The students  participated in the Natural Resources Pathway Plant Systems Program of Study  PBA in which students assisted the North Shore Community land Trust with developing a native plants re-establishment plan for Kahuku Point.  The reestablishment plan included a timeline for propagation of specific native Hawaiian Dune ecosystem flora, determining the optimal plant stage and time of year for transplanting at the site, and processes and procedures to ensure plant survival without human interventions.  Student plans will be used as part of long-term restoration and recovery action implemented by the Land Trust.

Gernel, Kobe, Edgar and Godfrey took home 1st place in receiving the HIGHEST OVERALL PROFICIENCY score and awarded $100 each from sponsors McDonald's Hawaii.  This is the first time Pahoa High School student participated in a CTE Natural Resources Pathway Plant Systems PBA .
